To place an image in the background:

1. Make sure no graphic object is selected (Command-D)

2. Choose the Image style from the Background options:

   The page should now hold an empty image frame.

3. Drag your background image over the document background and simultaneously hold down the Option (alt) key, then drop the image over the background:
